The healthcare facility Palas Athéna was established in 1998. Initially a local surgery with X-ray capabilities, it gradually transformed into a center for surgical, orthopedic, radiodiagnostic, and operative care. Each year, we perform over 35,000 outpatient treatments and more than 2,500 surgeries under general anesthesia. In certain areas, such as the diagnosis and treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, surgical solutions for abdominal and inguinal hernias, and the performance of laparoscopic surgeries, we are among the leading institutions in the Czech Republic.
All healthcare services are covered by health insurance. Care is primarily provided to the residents of Jižní Město, but due to the high specialization of the facility and its continuously growing reputation, it is often sought after by patients from other areas of Prague as well as those from outside the city. Our patients appreciate not only the quality and professionalism of our services but also the human approach of our doctors and healthcare staff. The motto of our facility is that we know we cannot treat everything, but what we do, we do to the best of our ability. It is in these areas that we highly specialize and perform a large number of procedures, which logically reduces the percentage of complications. In outpatient surgeries, there are almost no infectious complications, and both the length of hospitalization and recovery time are shortened. We regularly monitor, evaluate, and publish the results of our treatments at professional symposiums.
To meet all patient demands, we have constructed an additional two floors on the existing ground-level building without the need to expand the built area. We do not plan to expand the range of services provided; instead, we want to use the extended space to enhance the quality of care and will continue to strive for maximum specialization in the areas we focus on.
Our vision was fully aligned with the concept of overall development for Jižní Město, where the destruction of green spaces by new construction and further densification through residential development is not desirable. With the extension, we aim to improve the level of healthcare infrastructure for the existing residents of Jižní Město. The construction of the extension has reduced waiting and appointment times and significantly increased patient comfort.
